Common questions

Which French tenses should a beginner learn first?

Start with the present, then add the passé composé for completed past events, the imperfect for background and habits, and the simple future for plans and predictions. These four forms cover a large share of everyday French.

Why do some passé composé forms show (e) or (s)?

Verbs that use être normally make the past participle agree with the subject. The optional letters show feminine and plural endings: allé, allée, allés, allées.

Are these conjugations generated automatically?

No page is published from a guessed form. Simple-tense forms come from a reviewed, compact Morphalou-derived resource; documented source alternatives are resolved before publication, and compound forms use each verb’s reviewed auxiliary.
