Reflexive verbs and daily routines
At A2, French learners start using reflexive verbs to talk about everyday routines and personal actions.
Main patterns
- reflexive pronouns: me, te, se, nous, vous, se
- common verbs: se lever, se laver, s'habiller, se coucher, se préparer
- the reflexive pronoun usually comes before the verb: Je me lève tôt.
- with negation, the pronoun stays with the verb: Je ne me couche pas tard.
Useful examples
- Je me réveille à sept heures.
- Tu te prépares pour l'école.
- Nous nous lavons avant le dîner.
Watch out
Do not forget the reflexive pronoun, and do not confuse a reflexive verb with a normal verb that takes a direct object.
