A2
Future proche and near plans
At A2, French learners often talk about plans that are already decided or about things that are about to happen. French usually uses aller + infinitive for this.
Main pattern
- subject + aller + infinitive: Je vais sortir.
- common time markers: ce soir, demain, tout à l'heure, la semaine prochaine
- the meaning is close to English "going to" or "about to"
Examples
- Je vais appeler ma mère ce soir.
- Nous allons prendre le bus.
- Tu vas comprendre bientôt.
Watch out
Do not conjugate the infinitive after aller. The helper verb changes, but the main verb stays in infinitive form.
