B1
Future forms and planned actions
At B1, French learners need two very common ways to talk about the future: aller + infinitive and the future simple.
Main patterns
- aller + infinitive for a near future plan or something already decided: Je vais appeler demain.
- future simple for a prediction, promise, or more neutral future fact: J'appellerai demain.
- common time markers: demain, ce soir, la semaine prochaine, bientôt, plus tard
Future simple endings
Add the future endings to the infinitive, or use the irregular stem when needed.
| Subject | Ending |
|---|---|
| je | -ai |
| tu | -as |
| il/elle/on | -a |
| nous | -ons |
| vous | -ez |
| ils/elles | -ont |
Examples:
- parler → je parlerai
- aller → j'irai
- être → je serai
- faire → nous ferons
Watch out
Do not mix up the two patterns. Use aller + infinitive for a clear plan and the future simple when you need a single future verb form.
