Practice French

B1

Future forms and planned actions

At B1, French learners need two very common ways to talk about the future: aller + infinitive and the future simple.

Main patterns

  • aller + infinitive for a near future plan or something already decided: Je vais appeler demain.
  • future simple for a prediction, promise, or more neutral future fact: J'appellerai demain.
  • common time markers: demain, ce soir, la semaine prochaine, bientôt, plus tard

Future simple endings

Add the future endings to the infinitive, or use the irregular stem when needed.

Subject Ending
je -ai
tu -as
il/elle/on -a
nous -ons
vous -ez
ils/elles -ont

Examples:

  • parlerje parlerai
  • allerj'irai
  • êtreje serai
  • fairenous ferons

Watch out

Do not mix up the two patterns. Use aller + infinitive for a clear plan and the future simple when you need a single future verb form.
