Mardi soir, Sami veut préparer une soupe pour sa sœur, qui rentre tard. Il ouvre le frigo: deux carottes, un poireau, une pomme de terre et un petit morceau de fromage. Ce n'est pas beaucoup, mais Sami met tout dans une casserole. Pendant que l'eau chauffe, le voisin frappe à la porte. Il apporte du persil parce qu'il en a trop. Puis la boulangère du rez-de-chaussée donne un morceau de pain. La soupe devient verte, chaude et très parfumée. Quand sa sœur arrive, elle pense que Sami a suivi une recette compliquée. Il sourit et montre la cuisine presque vide. Non, dit-il, c'est une soupe avec de bons voisins.

On Tuesday evening, Sami wants to make soup for his sister, who is coming home late. He opens the fridge: two carrots, a leek, a potato, and a small piece of cheese. It is not much, but Sami puts everything in a pot. While the water heats, the neighbor knocks at the door. He brings parsley because he has too much. Then the baker from the ground floor gives him a piece of bread. The soup becomes green, hot, and very fragrant. When his sister arrives, she thinks Sami followed a complicated recipe. He smiles and shows the almost empty kitchen. No, he says, it is a soup with good neighbors.
