The two ways to review

Screens from the app itself. A card can run French → your language or the other way round, and you choose whether to recall the answer or pick it from four options.

A vocabulary review card in the Practice French app: the French adjective 'doux/douce' with a play button, above a 'Reveal answer' button, with switches for card direction and for recall versus multiple choice The Vocab Match board in the app: four French words and four meanings laid out as tiles, with a matched pair highlighted in green and a shuffle and next-set control below

What a review actually looks like

These are real cards from the deck, shown exactly as the app serves them — same words, same example sentences, same reviewed wrong answers.

The card

la maison A1

Reveal the answer

the house

In a sentence

La maison est très grande.

The house is very big.

A word comes up on its own. Try to recall it before you reveal the answer — that effort is what makes the schedule work.

Multiple choice

boire A1

What does this word mean?

  • to eat
  • to run
  • to drink
  • to write
Show answer

to drink

Switch the answer mode and the same card offers four options instead. The wrong ones are hand-picked confusables, not random words, so guessing does not get you far.

Match the pairs

  • le chatthe cat
  • le painbread
  • mercithank you
  • aujourd'huitoday
A lighter round: four French words, four meanings, tapped together. It still writes real reviews, so a quick game keeps the schedule moving.

How a session works

Pick a level and the session draws new words from it. Anything already due comes back too, whatever level you first met it at — so older words never get stranded when you move up.

Every answer reschedules the card. Get it right and the gap grows; miss it and the word returns within a day or two. That is the entire mechanism — there is nothing to configure, and no deck to build by hand.

You can stop mid-session. There is no streak to protect, no penalty for a quiet week, and the queue is simply waiting where you left it.

Practice is free every day up to the daily cap, on the web and in both apps; Premium removes the cap. Progress saves without an account and syncs across your devices once you make one.

  1. Every word starts as a new card; answering it schedules the next review at the right moment.
  2. Cards you know stretch out over weeks; cards you miss come back quickly.
  3. A calm daily session keeps the whole deck alive — no streaks, no pressure.

What comes with every word

Common questions

Are the flashcards free?

Yes — daily practice is free up to a generous cap on every platform. Premium removes the cap.

What is spaced repetition?

A scheduling method: each answer sets the next review just before you would forget, so known words take almost no time and weak words return often.

Which levels are covered?

All five CEFR levels, A1 to C1, with 200 reviewed words each.

Do I need an account?

No. You can start straight away and your progress is saved; making an account later keeps it in sync across your devices.

Can I choose which words I see?

You pick the level, and the session draws new words from it. Words already due for review come back whatever level they came from, and anything you star lands in your saved words.

Is there audio for every word?

Yes — every word has recorded pronunciation, and example sentences can be read aloud too.
