B2
Causative with faire
The construction
Conjugate faire; the following verb stays in the infinitive. The subject arranges or causes the action, but does not necessarily perform it.
Je fais réparer ma voiture. → Hier, j’ai fait réparer ma voiture.
Who performs the action?
With a direct object, à or par can introduce the performer. Both examples below are possible; par makes the agent particularly clear. Without a direct object, the performer can follow the infinitive directly.
Je fais lire le texte à Paul. / Je fais lire le texte par Paul.
Je fais rire Paul.
Past participle
Fait followed by an infinitive stays unchanged, including with se faire.
Elle s’est fait couper les cheveux. / Les robes qu’elle a fait confectionner sont prêtes.
